The Student Welfare Organization in Tromsø (SiTo) owns 6 barracks in Longyearbyen, Svalbard. Five of these are renovated miners barracks, while barrack 4 was built in 2004.

The barracks are run from Forskningsparken, UNIS, where a local representative from SiTo occupies office 302.

All units are fully furnished, including a duvet and a pillow. There is some kitchen equipment in the barracks, so there is no need to bring your own. There's usually some plates, cups and cutlery left by former students of UNIS that you can use.

RENT
The rent for 2012 is NOK 3400, and the rent should be paid within the 15th every month. A bank giro will be sent to the tenants approximately one week before the due date. Should you fail to pay your rent on time a reminder of missing rent will be sent after the due date.

The tenant is responsible for the rent and duration of contract according to the tenancy agreement regulations.

SHORT TIME RENTAL

From 01.01.2012

Short time rental (Only Unis courses): Shortest rental is one week, and its NOK 250 pr day after that. 1 week NOK 1800, 2 weeks NOK 2800, 3 week NOK 3100, 4 weeks NOK 3950, 5 week NOK 4950, 6 weeks NOK 5890, 7 week NOK 6830, 8 weeks NOK 7770.

Cancellation: Minimum 3 weeks before arrival.

OVERNIGHT VISITORS

Unis students can rent a visit room for a maximum of 1 week for NOK 1800.

You are also allowed to have overnight visitors in your room for free at a maximum of 1 week. You have to be present yourself during the visit. SiTo must be notified before the visit takes place. We are obliged by security precautions to have a survey of all persons living in our barracks.

TRANSFER
The tenant may apply for a transfer to another room. Should your application be granted, you will have to pay a transfer fee of NOK 300. This also applies to transfers within the same barrack.
