RENTING

Everyone who is or will be a student at the University of Tromsø has the opportunity to rent a place to live as long as we have available places to stay.

International students

International students who have applied to UiT within the application deadline, are given the opportunity to reserve a single room in a student hostel. A room will be reserved upon request only. Read more about how to apply for accommodation.

THE APPLICATION

You can apply to rent the entire year with housing assigned in order of the date of application. The application can be sent electronically via Boligtorget. The application is active for one month after the desired move-in date. If you do not receive an offer during this period but are still interested, please contact the Service Centre. Otherwise you will be removed from the waiting list.

Note that applicants that are already registered with us cannot change the application after submission. Therefore, you must contact us you wish to change your priority.

OFFER AND MOVING IN
The renting offer is sent with a rental contract. You accept the offer by returning a signed contract and paying the deposit within 7 days. Thus, if the contract isn’t signed by the seven day deadline you lose the offer, even if the deposit has been paid. The lease contract is supplemented by the regulations in Lov om husleieavtaler (the Landlord and Tenant Act).

Moving in for all student renters occurs in the rental office (“boligekspedisjonen”) at the Service Centre, where you'll receive the key, a washing machine card, information about the internet, and more.

SIGNING WITH BANK ID
In order to sign the rental contract electronically, the menu “Signer” must be used. This choice activates the BankID signature program from BBS (Bankenes Betalingssentral). Follow the instruction from the guide and you will be led through the signature process step by step. Signing with help from BankID is easy, safe, and as binding as a handwritten signature on paper.

SIGNING A CONTRACT WITHOUT BANK ID
For those without BankID or who want to sign with a handwritten signature, the process is as follows:

1. Download the rental contract (PDF-document) by choosing the menu choice “Last ned” (download) and print two copies of the rental contract
2. Sign one copy and return to the landlord (the return address is given in the rental contract)
